Ingredients

  • 1 large rutabaga peeled and sliced 1/16 inch on a mandolin
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream 1/2 cup cream and 1/2 cup chicken broth for a lighter dish
  • 1 large clove garlic sliced thin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F.
  • Combine rutabaga, cream, garlic, salt, and nutmeg in a large pan. Cook, stirring occasionally over medium high heat until tender and the cream reduces by half, about 10 minutes.
  • Pour the cooked rutabaga into a small oven safe dish and dot with butter. Bake at 350F for 20 min.
  • Add cheese over top and bake for another 10 min and the cheese is melted and browned.
  • Allow for the dish to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can make this a day ahead. Simply prepare to the stage where you transfer to a baking dish then wrap it in plastic. When ready to bake, add the cheese, cover it with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for 10 minutes to brown the cheese.
