Heat butter over medium high heat in a large pot and when hot, add the onions, cooking until soft, about 5 minutes.
While the onions cook, toss the beef cubes with paprika, salt, and pepper.
Remove the onions from the pot and set aside. In the now empty pot, add the beef cubes and brown on all sides, about 5-10 minutes. Add back the onions, tomato paste, and garlic and cook for about 2 minutes. Add the broth and bring to a simmer. Cook for 2 hours, or until meat is tender.
